Mountain Rescue save stranded sheep from ditch

Date published: 23 February 2022

Rossendale & Pendle Mountain Rescue saved a sheep that had become stranded in a deep drainage ditch near Littleborough on Tuesday morning (22 February).

The team was deployed at around 7.30am after 'it became apparent members of the public were going to attempt the rescue themselves'.

The decision was made to deploy the mountain rescue team to prevent “unnecessary danger to the public.”

Upon arrival, a risk assessment was undertaken to ensure the safety of the volunteers and the sheep.

Using a rope system to access, assess and secure the sheep, mountain rescue raised it to safety.

After further assessment by the farmer and RSPCA officer, the sheep was deemed well enough to return to its flock.
