CCTV installed in Balderstone Park to halt antisocial behaviour

Date published: 08 July 2021

CCTV cameras have been installed in Balderstone Park following a campaign by local councillors.

After numerous incidents in the park, the need for CCTV coverage was made clear to councillors by residents.

In a bid to halt antisocial behaviour in the park, Councillors Daniel Meredith and Phil Massey began a campaign for cameras to be installed and the duo managed to obtain funding from Rochdale Township.

New CCTV was installed last month – with a positive response from the community – and has already identified ongoing antisocial behaviour.

Councillor Danny Meredith said: “It’s brilliant that Balderstone Park now has CCTV. I have a young family and regularly use the park, and I know that I can now report antisocial behaviour and crime with the backup of CCTV evidence in the park.

“The more residents report to the police and Rochdale Council, the more the CCTV will be used, leading to an overall decrease in incidents.

“This is the Labour team delivering on manifesto commitments of promoting a safer community.”

Councillor Phil Massey said: “The CCTV that has been installed compliments the park and the goal of becoming a Green Flag Park.

“Balderstone Park is an asset the area and, as your Labour councillors, we will continue to work with Balderstone Park Friends Group and the community to improve the park for future generations.

”We would like to thank the community for supporting a safer community.”

"Balderstone Park will also soon have a new community room, sports pitches, play equipment and fencing.

"The Green Flag entry will be finalised next year."
