Brownhill Learning Community's sponsored 10k raises over £500 for Royal British Legion

Date published: 15 December 2020

Students and staff at Brownhill Learning Community have raised over £500 for the Royal British Legion after taking part in a sponsored 10k run.

The school’s head of PE, John Banner, a former soldier, found that the students showed great interest when learning about Remembrance Day. Mr Banner found their interest the perfect opportunity to raise money for a worthwhile cause.

Training began at the end of October and as the weeks progressed, the staff found that the students were becoming even more determined to better their performance. The target to raise £500 gave them a focus and kept them fit and active during the second national lockdown.

As the run concluded at the school gates, the students were clearly proud of their achievements and were presented with medals donated by the Royal British Legion. The total amount raised was a staggering £540.

A representative from the school said: “This was a fantastic team building exercise that encouraged their patience, perseverance and also encouraged them to work as a team.

“Well done students and youth worker Chelsea Williamson for supporting throughout.

“The whole school is very proud.”
