Date published: 21 June 2019
For a 15th year, the Ascot Ladies Day at Nutters was celebrated on Thursday (20 June 2019) by a sell-out of 180 attendees.
Organised by a committee set up by the Rotary Club of Rochdale, along with Rochdale’s NSPCC branch, a total of £5,896.92 was raised at the event this year.
Nicky McGill and Liz Jackson of Fisherfield Childcare also presented the Rotary Club with a cheque for a further £6,880 from their fundraising activities over the last 12 months, bringing the total raised to a massive £12,776.92 for the NSPCC.
This money was accepted by Debbie Sefton, North West Community Fundraising Manager for the NSPCC, who gave a short talk about the services the charity delivers in Rochdale.
The Masters of Ceremony this year were Rotarians Bob Chadwick and Rochdale Online director, Rotarian John F Kay, dressed in top hats and tails.
Sponsored by Revilo Homes & Mortgages, guests enjoyed a pink cocktail reception and 3-course meal at Nutters Restaurant in Norden.
During the event, a ‘Nutters raffle’ was held for a Gourmet Meal for two which raised a staggering £1,080 alone. Guests also took part in a grand raffle for a range of prizes, which had all been donated by local people and businesses.
After watching the races on large screens throughout the restaurant, a race game based on the first four races of the day also provided entertainment.
The winners of the race game, Liz Jackson, Loretta Acton and Sarajane Crossley were presented with bottles of champagne donated by Keith Banks President of the Rotary Club of Rochdale, Ann Stott JP and Rochdale Online. The booby prize was won by Neil Williams.
The winner of the best outfit competition was Barbara Fletcher, chosen by Andrew Nutter and Councillor Irene Davidson.
A representative for Revilo Homes & Mortgages, who sole sponsored the event for the first time this year, said: “We’re big supporters of the Rochdale Rotary Club and have worked with them on a number of occasions, raising much needed funds for Rochdale NSPCC.
“The opportunity to support and sponsor their long-standing event at Nutters Restaurant for Ladies Day at Ascot was a no brainer.
“It really was a fantastic day, from our performing Tesla outside Nutters, to the meal and of course the elegant ladies.
“Over the 15 years of the event, along with Fisherfield, they have now raised over £160,000 for the NSPCC in the north west.”
The Ascot Ladies Day at Nutters event was started by Lis Kay of the Rochdale NSPCC Branch in 2004. The event since that time has raised almost £80,000 for the charity, as well as Fisherfield Child Care nurseries also raising over £80,000 in the 15 years.
