RNIB seeks local ‘sight loss stars’ for awards

Date published: 16 March 2019

The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) is searching the North West of England for blind or partially sighted people who have made an outstanding contribution to their community.

The charity has teamed up with other sight loss organisations, such as Guide Dogs and Bradbury Fields, to hold an award evening that will recognise and celebrate the achievements of people with sight loss across the region.

The winners will be acknowledged at a ceremony during a glitzy celebration marking RNIB’s 150th year at Manchester’s Lowry Hotel on Saturday, 4 May 2019.

Andrea Glover, Network Manager for RNIB in the North West, said: “Our 150th anniversary provides a unique opportunity, not just to celebrate a milestone for our organisation, but also to celebrate the amazing achievements that have transformed the lives of blind and partially sighted people in the area.

“By working with other sight loss organisations across the North West, we want to find those extraordinary sight loss stars who go above and beyond to make the world a better place – and give them the recognition they deserve.”

Categories include; RNIB Award for Excellence in Media and Arts, RNIB Award for Excellence in Sports, RNIB Award for Excellence in Volunteering, RNIB Recognition Award for a Business or Corporation, RNIB Recognition Award for Outstanding Role Model (adult and young person), and RNIB Recognition Award for Outstanding Achievement.

The closing date for entries is Monday 25 March 2019, with the finalists being announced on Friday 5 April 2019.
