Rochd’ale’ Ale trail raises £1,400 for Mayor’s Charities

The 2018 Rochd’ale’ Ale Trail raised a whopping £1,400 for charity.

Cask ale, ciders and a variety of wines and beers were on offer throughout eight of Rochdale’s greatest town centre venues across the 15, 16 and 17 November.

Beer festivals have taken place in the past inside the historic town hall, attracting hundreds of beer lovers from across the borough and other surrounding areas.

This year, local pubs agreed to host this event between them, and so the Great Rochd’ale’ Ale Trail was borne.

They said it had been busy throughout the three days with ‘a good number of people around having a great time.’

They between them raised £1,400 for the Mayor’s chosen charities through collections and donations.

Mayor Zaman said: “It is good to receive huge support from local businesses and participants. Every penny we raise through the Mayor’s Charities will go to local good causes and will make difference to many people’s lives.

Cabinet member for regeneration, business, skills and employment, Councillor John Blundell commented: “I’m pleased to hear the Ale Trail was such a success and I know that all the venues which took part have given really positive feedback.

“We have some great bars and pubs in Rochdale, from longstanding success stories like the Flying Horse, to newer additions like the Medicine Tap and the Wellington, so any event like this which introduces even more people to our great town and fantastic venues can only be a good thing.”

Paul Ambrose, of Town Centre Management, said: “The event has been a fantastic success with all venues reporting they were busy serving customers from near and far. 

“It was great to speak to many of the 'Ale Trailers' who commented that Rochdale is the destination of choice for beer lovers and that they were extremely impressed with the on-going transformation of the town centre. 

“Due to the success of the event, it is something we are looking to repeat in 2019 but don't forget that all the venues serve award winning beers all year round.” 

Ben Boothman, of the Flying Horse Hotel, added: “This year’s Ale Trail was a huge success. [It was] Fantastic that all the venues came together with the council, CAMRA and the sponsors to keep Rochd’ALE’ on the map in regard to real ale.”
