Red cyclamen in the cross shaped planter at St Cuthbert's RC High School, part of the school's Remembrance Commemorations
St Cuthbert's RC High School students have been learning how they must never take peace for granted and how they should never forget the sacrifices made by those during conflict.
Some of the history students have been busy making poppies which will be used in displays around school to commemorate those lives lost in war.
St Cuthbert's RC High School pupils have also planted some really beautiful red cyclamen winter flowers in the cross shaped planter which stands in front of the school chapel.
This is just the start of the many commemorative projects that the school have planned for the up and coming weeks.
Year 8 student gets a new club up and “running”
Hannah Burston approached her PE teachers with the desire to start up a running club within school. In the first week of its launch, over 15 girls attended. The girls worked their socks off during their first meet last Thursday. The running club will take place every other Thursday and is open to all year groups.
Careers day keeps students on course
Post 16 providers and professionals from many industries and educational sectors were invited in to school to speak to the Year 11 students.
During the day they were given advice on how to complete college applications, write CV’s, personal statements and given the opportunity to take part in some mock interviews.
A spokesperson for the school said: “We were very privileged to have had such a large number of people from many different professions during the event, all giving up their time to share with us their work-life experiences.
“Many of the visitors commented on how smart, articulate and mature our students were on the day. Many thanks to all of the people who helped to make this such a successful event. A special thank you to our past pupils who came back to share their experiences since leaving St. Cuthbert’s. It is fantastic to see all of the great things that you are all achieving, you are a great inspiration to our current students and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.
