Junior parkrun launched at Milnrow Memorial Park

Date published: 15 October 2018

30 determined young runners refused to let their spirits be dampened as they turned out in force for the inaugural junior parkrun at Milnrow Memorial Park on Sunday (14 October).

The children made their way around the 2km course, in spite of the rain, to be greeted at the finish line with big cheers.

The inaugural run was attended by the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Mohammed Zaman, Councillor Janet Emsley (representing Link4Life) and Donna Livesey (Sport and Physical Activity Manager for Link4Life).

17 volunteers helped out on the day, ensuring the debut Milnrow junior parkrun was a success.

The first place spots for the first boy and girl were achieved by two young members of Rochdale Harriers, Harry and Lottie Peacocke, with respective times of 9:09 and 11:12.

The event has been made possible with the help of Rochdale Council, Rochdale Public Health, Link4Life and the Friends of Memorial Park.

junior parkrun is a free, weekly, timed run for children aged between 4 and 14.  It takes place every Sunday in Milnrow Memorial Park at 9am and is organised wholly by volunteers.
