No strings attached as Shawclough actress takes lead puppeteering role

Date published: 30 August 2018

Local actress Megan Wight has landed the lead role of Kate Monster in the upcoming Rochdale production of Avenue Q.

The musical, which requires performers to sing, dance, act and operate their puppet characters, has garnered awards all over the world and is set to make its Rochdale debut at the Curtain Theatre in October.

Megan said: “I’ve been a fan of Avenue Q for a number of years now, and when the chance came along to audition for the role, I was there like a shot- I even brought my own puppet character to the audition with me.”

“I just love the premise that puppets and humans coexist in a New York world, and that’s perfectly normal. It allows the show’s writers to tackle some really hard-hitting issues whilst at the same time giving permission for the audience to laugh at the characters and at themselves.”

The WAMDS production features local performers from Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton as well as the wider Greater Manchester.

Megan added: “It is great that we are able to attract performers and audiences to Rochdale by staging modern, exciting and challenging musical theatre. Long may it continue."
