Date published: 18 June 2018
Year 7 footballers have finished their first year at Whitworth Community High School on a high with two local trophies to add to their national success.
The young team got into the quarter final of the ESFA Boys Under 12 PlayStation 9-a-side Small Schools’ Cup and have now beaten the other small Rossendale schools to the Year 7 and Year 7/8 Cups.
Finlay Leech, 12, said: “The Year 7 team played All Saints in the first round, then BRGS when we won 9-2 and in the final, we beat Fearns 5-0.”
As a combined Year 7/8 team they also beat both Fearns and All Saints to claim a second cup.
Sam Wellington, 12, said: “As a team we reached the quarter final of the English schools’ competition and also won two Rossendale cups.
“We are now concentrating on our football over the summer to be ready for the next season.
“It is good to think that this is the first year we have been in high school and we have done so well.”
