Hate crime assault: second man arrested

A second man has been arrested after a 17-year-old was viciously assaulted with a golf club.
In the early hours of Saturday morning (2 June), Matthew Hayden and Josh Jones, who play rugby for Littleborough Colts, plus friend Zac Madden, were viciously attacked in Smithy Bridge after they were followed by four men in a dark Nissan Micra.
The offending group of men were heard shouting racial abuse at the teenager and his friends before they fled towards Hollingworth Lake.
This incident is being treated as a hate crime.
A-21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of a section 18 assault and remains in police custody for questioning.
