Soaking up the sun at college fun day

Date published: 15 May 2018

Hopwood Hall College Middleton campus played host to over 1,300 local people on Saturday at a Community Fun Day.

The Fun Day gives people from the surrounding areas the opportunity to get together and take part in family activities based on the many courses and commercial facilities run by the college.

Visitors had the chance to meet and learn about nearly 100 species of animals, construct and paint creations in their Technology Centre, have their hair, nails and make-up done by the college salon team, compete in sports day activities run by students and more.

One of the day's most popular events, the Community Dog Show, saw over 20 families bring their pooches to be judged by the college's animal management tutors. The winner, Rebekah Brocklehurst and her Shitzu, Ernie, took home the first prize 'doggy bag'.

Tthe Royal Fusiliers brought their paintball range, Lower Moss Wood Wildlife Hospital brought a selection of owls,  Hopwood DePree met with attendees to talk about his project to rescue the old Hopwood Hall and Guide Dogs, Rochdale Fostering, Blue Cross, Springhill Hospice and Transport for Greater Manchester also ran their own stalls.

Donation boxes featured around the college to raise money for Cancer Research, which also had its own stall.

Caroline Street, executive director of Hopwood Hall College, said: "I'd like to congratulate our students and staff on another fantastic Community Fun Day. Everyone's hard work in planning and delivering the event paid off, it was very rewarding to be able to positively spread the word in our community about what a fantastic College we have. All our students and staff who took part in the event were fantastic ambassadors for Hopwood Hall College.

"Attending the event myself, I overheard children telling their parents they want to come to the college when they leave school, so I am very excited to see many returning faces in the coming years.

“Overall, it has been a great opportunity for everybody at Hopwood Hall College to meet people from the communities we operate in and show them all the good we do in the most fun way possible.”
