The leaders of the opposition on Rochdale Borough Council have responded to the news that Councillor Richard Farnell has resigned as the Leader of Rochdale Council.
Leader of the Conservatives, Councillor Ashley Dearnley said: “I am sure the leader has done the right thing in light of the situation at the moment. Hopefully the borough can move forward positively.”
Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Councillor Andy Kelly said: “I can only welcome this as a good thing. It means we can move on and people can start to have confidence in Rochdale politics.
“This news has still got to concern how the town is run on a day-to-day basis with the Riverside development, and the market.
"The restructure in democracy with the 34% pay rise has been pushed aside.
"That is not to undermine the survivors, who should be the most important priority in all this.”
