Police appeal to parents in Middleton

Date published: 18 August 2017

Police in Middleton have had to implement a dispersal order within the Middleton Gardens.

A police spokesperson said: “Sadly, we have had to implement a Dispersal Order within the Middleton Gardens area due to the increasing issues of anti-social behaviour being caused by a small section of Middleton’s youths, including holding onto the backs of buses on their bikes and being dragged down the street.

"The drivers are unaware of this and the potential consequences are obvious.

“In short, a Constable or PCSO can issue the order and demand that person leaves the area immediately and not return for a period up to 48 hours in this case. If they fail to comply with that notice they will be arrested.

“This evening, Wednesday 16 August, we have issued one such notice and made two phone calls to parents to advise them about the issues their sons are being associated with. I am sure if this was your child you would be horrified. We do have CCTV footage of all those involved and have identified most. The others will follow.

“In the meantime can you please make contact with your children if you think that they may be in the Middleton Gardens area then please ask them to come home or at very least make their way out of it.

“In addition, if you think your child has been involved expect a visit from us, or feel free to make contact with us at the Neighbourhood Policing Team on 0161 856 8701 where we will happily call you back to discuss the issue.

“Thank you for your help.”
