Tens of thousands sign petition calling for Sara Rowbotham to be recognised for her role exposing Rochdale grooming gangs

Date published: 20 May 2017

Tens of thousands of people have signed a petition calling for former sexual health worker Sara Rowbotham to be recognised for her role in exposing grooming gangs in Rochdale.

Sara, who was played by Maxine Peake in the BBC drama Three Girls that was aired in the past week, played an instrumental role in getting the girls’ voices heard after she spent years recording and reporting cases of child abuse as a sexual health worker for Rochdale Crisis Intervention Team.

Viewers were left 'disgusted' when Thursday night's final episode revealed that Sara was 'excluded from future initiatives on child grooming' and then made redundant.

A petition started by Katei Blezard calling for Sara to be 'recognised' has been signed by over 40,000 people at the time of publication:

Sara is now a Labour councillor.
