Rayz All-Stars Cheerleaders win seven trophies at Spring Championships
Date published: 20 May 2017
Rayz All-Stars Cheerleaders competed at the United Kingdom Cheerleading Association Spring Championships last weekend and came away with seven trophies.
They were awarded three first place prizes for the Junior A team (12 and under) level one, the Senior team level three and the Stingrayz mascot dance off.
The Tiny Teenies team (ages five to seven) level one came away with third place, the Junior B team (15 and under) level two and Pom dance team level one both came away with fifth place prizes.
The final award went to Emma Chappell, who has been with Rayz for 10 years. She won a UKCA special award for her commitment and dedication over the many years. She leaves this summer to study dance at university and Rayz wish her all the best.
Head Coach, Tracey Ray, said: "I'm so proud of all our cheerleaders who represented our club amazingly. Many thanks to our very supportive families and hardworking coaches.
“Cheerleading builds confidence and requires teamwork, trust, dedication and determination, life skills that we hope our pupils will carry with them after their time with us.”
The Tiny Teenies and Angels Pom team are two new teams, coached by Abi Mellor, who has been Tracey’s student for the past 11 years. It was their first time competing at the weekend.
Hundreds of cheerleaders from all over the UK competed at the Manchester Velodrome, performing routines combining elements such as stunts, jumps, dance and tumbling skills. They are marked by five judges on a panel.
