Traffic lights are to be installed at the junction of Langley Lane and Heywood Old Road after a teenage cyclist was involved in a collision with a lorry on the junction.

The 13-year-old boy remains in a critical condition after he was taken to hospital with serious head injuries on Monday morning (3 April).

Councillor Phil Burke, the council's transport spokesman, said: "Firstly, I would like to say that my thoughts are with the family of the boy involved in this terrible accident.

“I know that there is a lot of concern about traffic on Heywood Old Road and the council is planning to install traffic lights at both ends of Langley Lane to try and improve the situation.

“Although there isn't a timescale for this work, I have contacted the highways department to ask them to look at this as a matter of urgency."
