Fatal stabbing on Kellett Street

A man has died following an incident on Kellett Street, Rochdale at 3.30am Friday (4 November).

The man, who was stabbed, has been identified by his sister as Akbar Masood, aged 22.

In a post online she said: "Absolutely heartbroken to hear my brother died this morning, so devastated it's never going to be the same without you.

"R.I.P Akbar, you will be missed loads, you were a really good guy."

Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance attended the scene.

Police officers performed CPR on the man who had suffered stab wounds to his abdomen. 

The man was taken to Royal Oldham hospital where he sadly died a short time later.

A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Jones of GMP’s Major Incident Team said: “First and foremost I would like to offer my deepest condolences to this man’s loved ones, who we are currently working to provide with support from specially trained officers.

“I know anytime an incident like this occurs it would undoubtedly cause concern in the community but I would like to assure the public that we have launched a full investigation.

“We currently have a man in custody in connection with this but our enquiries are continuing and I would ask that anybody with information they think may assist us, please contact the police.”
