Karen Danczuk being chased for business rates

Date published: 29 April 2016

Karen Danczuk is being pursued by Rochdale Borough Council for business rates outstanding from the now defunct Danczuk's Deli, which Mrs Danczuk owned jointly with her former husband, Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk.

It is understood that Mrs Danczuk has disputed the arrears but the Council has refused to confirm on what grounds or the amount it claims is owed by Mrs Danczuk.

Keith Mackenzie, Rochdale Borough Council’s head of revenues and benefits, said: “We are in discussion with the account holder on an outstanding amount that has been disputed.”

Asked on what grounds and how much is owed, Council Head of Communications, Danny Brierley said: "I can’t really add anything to our statement."

Mrs Danczuk was taken to court last year for non payment of rent by her former landlord, Steven Butterfield, who obtained a County Court Judgment (CCJ) against Mrs Danczuk.

The fixtures and fittings from the former deli, in The Walk in Rochdale town centre, were removed in October 2015 and taken to Mrs Danczuk's bungalow in Kingsway, and subsequently offered for sale online by Mrs Danczuk.

Mrs Danczuk has not responded to an invitation to comment.
