Whitworth Community High School fundraising trampolinists

Date published: 12 February 2016

A team of trampolinists continuously bounced for 10 hours to raise money for charity and to buy new school equipment.

The 14 students from Whitworth Community High School devised the fund-raiser themselves and wrote to the Headteacher Gill Middlemas to ask for permission to carry it out during school time.

Charlotte Ingham, 13, said: “Ella Dickinson from Year 10 and I had the idea after talking to our PE teacher.

“All the staff came down to support us and we were on the trampolines from 7am to 5pm.

“When we finished I didn’t feel that bad, but my hips were a bit sore.”

The students took over the school PE hall and set up two trampolines, throughout the 10 hours at least one person was on one of the trampolines.

They were sponsored and also collected on the day and raised £460 for the
British Heart Foundation and towards a new trampoline for school.

Brooke Gosling, 15, said: “We have two trampolines but the springs on one are not so good and we want to be able to replace it.

“I think trampolining is fun.”

Gymnast Jordana Marsh, 11, also enjoyed taking part in the challenge: “I didn’t really know anyone until I took part in this, but we all got to talk a lot while we were not on the trampolines and now I know them very well.”

The trampoline will cost around £2,000 and students are planning other fundraisers including a boy’s football marathon and dance events and they hope to raise the necessary money by summer.
