Mayor launches Whitworth Community Cinema to Support Local Dementia Care

Date published: 06 August 2018

Councillor Mrs Madeline De Souza became the Mayor of Whitworth for the second time on 24 May this year and since then, her feet have hardly touched the ground.

One of the functions of the Mayor is to raise funds for charity.

The Mayoral Charity Fund will then be shared between local community groups at the Annual Parish meeting in May 2019.

This year, Madeline would like to make a donation to Barley View, the new dementia care home currently being built in our Whitworth, for a specific piece of equipment to assist in their specialist dementia care.

After being instrumental in bringing Pinders Circus to Whitworth in June, Madeline just couldn’t resist having a circus themed fundraiser.

On Saturday 20 October she will host two screenings of the sing-a-long version of the Greatest Showman at the Riverside. There will be a family and dementia friendly screening in the afternoon and then a further screening in the evening for adults.

The Mayor is also working in conjunction with Community Leisure Association Whitworth (CLAW) the charity who manage the Civic Hall and the leisure centre, to put on another joint community cinema showing Incredibles 2 and Mamma Mia 2.
