Waughs Well damaged

Date published: 31 January 2018

The headstone and bust of Edwin Waugh at Waughs Well on Scout Moor has been removed for repair following weather damage.

Alan Rawsterne, Secretary, Rooley Moor Neighbourhood Forum said: “On the 7 January a member of Rosendale Harriers reported the headstone and bust of Edwin Waugh had been damaged at Waughs Well.

“That person contacted the Edwin Waugh Dialect Society who asked if the stone could be retrieve and taken to a safe place. I believe the son of the President of the Edwin Waugh Dialect Society has collected the headstone and they will repair and restore it.”

Alyson Brailsford, Edwin Waugh Dialect Society said: “The consensus is the stone split with weather damage and the bust of Edwin Waugh fell off.

“The president of the society Denise Lye asked her son to go and collect it - this he has done.

"We are arranging with a stone merchant to have it repaired and the Edwin Waugh Dialect Society will pay for the repair.”
