Littleborough Cricket Club to host live entertainment afternoon to raise money for Samantha Smith

An afternoon of entertainment is being held to raise funds for Samantha Smith, the young mum from Smithy Bridge who urgently requires life-saving neurosurgery.

The event will be headlined by star guest Peter Sarsfield as Frankie Valli, who won ITV’s Stars In Their Eyes in 2015 and a whole range of local singers and bands including organiser of the night, and local singer-songwriter, Dan Dearden, renowned saxophonist Johnny Sax and more.

A bouncy castle, face-painting, a raffle and auction with fantastic prizes will also be available throughout the event.

Tickets cost just £5 for adults, £2.50 for children and are available from Littleborough Cricket Club, The Village Bakery and Electric Beach Tanning Salon and on the doors (first come, first serve).

Samantha was diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) in December 2016, after ‘a lifetime of pain and eight years of tests, misdiagnoses and ill health’. 

EDS is a genetic condition that means connective tissue holding the body together is faulty and too weak, causing extreme widespread pain, daily dislocations, cardiac abnormalities and multiple other illnesses. It affects around one in 5,000 people worldwide.

The 30-year-old’s brain and spinal cord are being crushed under the weight of her own skull as the ligaments in Samantha’s neck are too stretched and weakened to support her head in a condition known as Crainocervical Instability (CCI).

CCI can arise in EDS sufferers due to a lack of connective tissue support at the craniocervical junction (between the skull and first two vertebrae of the spine).

Sam desperately needs to raise £150,000 in just six weeks for an operation with an international surgeon that has a 95 percent success rate. Despite the high success rate, there are no surgeons qualified in the UK to conduct the complex surgery that can keep her alive.

If she does not receive this vital surgery, the condition will kill her after causing organ failure and paralysis.
The afternoon of entertainment is being held between 2.00pm and 10.00pm on Sunday 21 May at Littleborough Cricket Club.
