Welcoming asylum seeking young people

Date published: 22 April 2017

Statham House and Deeplish Community Centre have pledged to support each other to raise awareness of the issues and barriers people seeking asylum coming into Rochdale face.

A community event on Saturday provided an opportunity to talk about how the organisations can work together and make changes for the better.

Unaccompanied asylum seeking children with interpreters and staff and volunteers from Statham House attended along with external agencies, local councillors and children’s rights workers.

Sohail Ahmad, manager at Deeplish Community Centre, said: "This open day was to welcome new community members and create a network to work in partnership with each other to support residents of Statham House.

"We will continue to work in partnership and organise further community events at the Community Centre in partnership with DePaul Charity."
