Brown’s Handcrafted Cakes in the Rochdale Online Department Store

Date published: 11 August 2014

Award winning Brown’s Handcrafted Cakes is one of 34 retailers listing their products to be sold in the Rochdale Online Department Store.

Brown’s was one of the first retailers to sign up to the online department store initiative and has seen a number of orders placed since signing up.

Natasha Brown from Brown’s Handcrafted Cakes said: “Since signing up it has gone really well and we have had orders that have all gone well. It is really good to be part of.”

Brown’s is currently the only bakery using the department store to sell their products online and currently has listed a number of items that can be personalised and made quickly for the customer.

Natasha added: “When people come into our shop they often want something that we haven’t made before or are planning far in advance, so the things we have on the store are the things that can be personalised for each customer and are things that can be made quickly.”

Natasha and her team also like the added option offered to shoppers that allows them to collect goods from the Feel Good Café on Yorkshire Street in Rochdale Town Centre.

“It is just around the corner from us so it is good to have that and it doesn’t really put us out. It is a really useful option,” said Natasha.

One customer who used the Rochdale Online Department Store to buy cakes from Brown’s said: “The personalisation option was brilliant and let me do exactly what I wanted to the cakes. The delivery was quick and they were delicious. I’m not sure it is something I would have bought if I hadn’t of been looking at the store but I am glad I did and they certainly went down well.”

Natasha wanted to be part of the Rochdale Online Department Store based on its support for the Rochdale community.

Natasha said: “It is Rochdale based and we are keen on supporting things that happen in Rochdale. Nowadays people often use the computer to look for things so it is a good idea to get on board with. Rochdale Online is well known in Rochdale and is popular so it wasn’t like we were getting on board with something that nobody had heard of.

“It is supporting local businesses and is a way for shoppers online to support local businesses.”

Natasha was also keen to stress the support she has had from the Rochdale Online team since signing up to the store.

She said: “The Rochdale Online team has been great at supporting us. We are not very technical and there is always someone at the other of the phone to help so that is great.”
