Pennine Acute Trust on look out for two new Non-executive Directors

The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is looking to appoint two new non-executive directors from the local community to serve on its Board.

The Board of every NHS Trust must have non-executive directors to help plan for the future to improve healthcare services and ensure services are safe and of high quality in the best interests of patients and the public.

John Jesky, Chairman of The Pennine Acute Trust, said: “Non-executive directors are important public appointments made by the NHS Trust Development Authority and, where possible, from the local communities served by the Trust. They work alongside other non-executives and executive directors as an equal member of the board. They share responsibility with the other directors for the decisions made by the board and for the success of the organisation in leading the local improvement of healthcare services for patients.”

The responsibilities of a NHS non-executive are: 

• To contribute to the strategic leadership of the Trust
• Making sure that the Trust management team meets its performance targets
• Making sure that the finances of the Trust are managed properly with accurate information
• Helping the Trust Board work in the public interest and keep its patients and the public properly informed
• Serving on important board committees

The Pennine Acute Trust is seeking high calibre individuals with ideally director or equivalent experience, or be in a senior management position seeking career development. They will need to have a genuine commitment to patients, to the promotion of excellent health care services and have senior experience in one of the following areas:

Post 1:

• Recent, relevant finance experience gained in a large accountancy firm or complex commercial organisation. The successful candidate will be required to chair the Audit Committee, therefore an accountancy qualification is essential.
• The successful candidate for post one will have a start date of 1 August 2014.

Post 2:

• Recent, relevant commercial experience gained at director level or equivalent, in a large commercial organisation, with knowledge of at least one of the following; marketing, medium term forecasting, procurement and/or tendering.
• Experience of working with the public sector would be an advantage.
• The successful candidate for post two will have a start date of 1 October 2014, although they will initially be appointed as a Board advisor from 1 August 2014.

The successful candidate will be asked to commit a minimum of 2.5 days per month on NHS duties, including some evening engagements, and will receive a remuneration of £6,157 per annum which is the current rate of remuneration for non-executives of NHS Trusts. Upon The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust achieving Foundation Trust status, the level of remuneration may be reviewed (NHS Foundation Trust non-executive directors typically receive £10,000 - £14,000 pa).

The Trust is one of the largest in the North West. It employs around 9,000 staff and serves a population of approximately 850,000 people living around Bury, Prestwich, Oldham, Middleton, North Manchester, Rochdale borough and parts of East Lancashire.

With a total annual operating budget of over half a billion pounds, the Trust runs North Manchester General Hospital, The Royal Oldham Hospital, Fairfield General Hospital in Bury, Rochdale Infirmary and a range of community health services across the north part of the city of Manchester.
