Splash out on your mum this Mother’s Day

Date published: 23 March 2014

That time of year where you spend dedicated time shopping for a special present, deciding on a special meal and finding the words to tell your mother that she is amazing has come round again.

Mother’s Day will be celebrated on Sunday 30 March and that is one day dedicated to showering your mother, grandmother and/or stepmother with gifts and treats.

Mother’s Day, also known as Mothering Sunday, is on the fourth Sunday of lent and is three weeks before Easter. Traditionally Mothering Sunday was a day where people visited the place that they were baptised but it has now become a celebration of motherhood.

Gifts usually include flowers, chocolates, jewellery and sentimental tokens.

If flowers are your choice of gift for someone on Mother’s Day, then Garden of Eden and Lola Ashleigh are both florists in the Rochdale borough who can provide you with something special.

Garden of Eden, located in Norden can produce a number of bouquets for Mother’s Day. The florist can produce box bouquets and hand tied bouquets starting from £25 with free local delivery and will be open seven days a week leading up to Mother’s Day. Owner of Garden of Eden, Christine Gorton said: “It is a very busy time of year for us. You can certainly feel the build up.”

Lola Ashleigh, a new florist in Rochdale, is encouraging customers to order early for free local delivery. Emma King, owner of Lola Ashleigh, said: “I have had lots of orders but the busier we are the better.”

Lola Ashleigh will have a variety of flowers available for Mother’s Day, as well cards and gifts. This will be the first year that the florist is trading for Mother’s Day after they opened last September. Emma added: “We have slowly been building up our reputation since September and we are finding that we are having a lot of repeat customers so that is good and always helps.”

If you want to treat your mother to a meal out on her special day, then the Flying Horse Hotel in Rochdale Town Centre is providing customers with the choice of two special offers. There is the option of a three course meal for £11.95 and a second option of afternoon tea for £7.95.

Ben Boothman, owner of The Flying Horse said: “We do get busy on Mother’s Day, which is surprising because we are just a pub, so booking is advisable for the special offers.”

The Rake Tapas Bar in Littleborough can also help you celebrate Mother’s Day in their beautiful 15th century building. The restaurant will be sticking to their usual formula of serving up popular dishes. Mark Wickham, owner the Rake Tapas Bar, said: “We are just doing the same as we normally do really. We will have some nice fish dishes on the day and some special basic meals.”

And to all the mothers reading this, however you decide to spend Mother’s Day, have a very special day.
