Birthday: Olive celebrates her 100th birthday

The friends and family of a woman celebrating her 100th birthday today (Wednesday 2 February 2010), gathered at the Millfield Care Centre in Heywood for a party.

Olive Jones was joined by her relatives and other residents at the care home for an afternoon of music, food and drink.

Mrs Jones, born Olive Larking, was one of 12 children. She had nine sisters and two brothers.

She was born in Salford and later moved to Blackley where she married and had two children.

Mrs Jones worked until she was 65, carrying out various roles from making sweeping brushes to cleaning jobs.

Mrs Jones suffers from dementia and has lived at the Millfield Care Centre for 12 years.

She has three grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

He daughter, Mavis, 64, described her mother’s birthday celebrations as “wonderful.”

Mavis said: “It is really nice to have everyone together.

“She has had a good life, she has never been ill to any extent, never really poorly, she has always been out and doing something – she used to be very active.”
