Mayor officially opens megastore

Date published: 24 September 2010

The Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Zulfiqar Ali officially opened the new PC World and Currys store in Rochdale this morning (Friday 24 September 2010).

The store on Dane Street, formerly just a Currys outlet has been completely revamped to house a variety of products spread across two floors.

Staff members were welcomed this morning by a short film about their transformation which showed the old store and the former rivalry the two separate companies shared.

The message today was loud and clear “two brands under one roof.”

The megastore has 38 members of staff, some are existing employees and some are new to their roles.

Mayor Ali was given a guided tour of the building, he said: “It is really fantastic news for Rochdale that at last Currys and PC World are in partnership in a mega way. It just shows that even businesses are in a partnership. I hope this store does really well.

“I wouldn’t have imagined in many years that we would have a megastore like this in Rochdale it is very good for the people of Rochdale and the businesses and I wish them all the success.”

The store’s manager Martin Smith said: “This has been a real team effort, we have been working towards this for many months and this is it! It will be a busy day ahead I’m sure.”
