H Bell and Sons - celebrating 100 years in our town
Date published: 25 April 2012
Founded as a plastering business in 1912 by Mr Henry Bell, H Bell & Sons Ltd has been serving the Rochdale borough from the same location for 100 years, and are looking forward to many more years serving the local community.
In 1930, Henry passed the baton over to his son, Henry T Bell. The war played a huge part in this era as the company had to diversify to incorporate property repairs. During this period the business overcame the declining trend and the business survived.
Today, the family is headed up by a third generation, Harry Bell. Harry joined the firm in 1953 and is now semi-retired, however still takes an active role in the business.
Son Chris and daughter Louise take a leading role on a day to day basis and have continued to grow the business, making it a highly successful building company for the private, commercial and industrial sectors. It is this close family hands on approach which has enabled the H Bell success story to last 100 years.
The company has been trusted with major traditional building and restoration works at Rochdale Town Hall and has also recognised the need to keep in step with industry developments with sustainable contracting.
H Bell has recently completed a new build four bedroom detached bespoke property. The clients are delighted with the finish, especially the home’s green credentials. H Bell & Sons have developed a great deal of knowledge and skill throughout this project and are very keen to use this in future projects.
To celebrate their centenary, H Bell & Sons will be holding a night of celebrations at Rochdale Golf Club. Attendees will be family, friends, suppliers and clients from all across the borough, from yesteryear to present day. Also attending will be Rochdale’s Mayor, awarding commemorative rose bowls to notable individuals.
H Bell & Sons has used local Rochdale based suppliers for this event as they believe very strongly in supporting the local community as they have done for the past 100 years.
