Whitworth introduces the untold stories of coal-mining communities

This week, Whitworth Library welcomes the untold, unheard and previously unknown stories of coal-mining communities on Friday 31 March at 7pm.

Told partly through the words of former miners and their families, Beneath the Banner shines a light on tales from the people of coal mining communities. From pit nurses to pit head baths, Coal Queens to canaries, courage to comedy, these are their stories, in their own words.

Up The Road Theatre are a touring company led by Artistic Director Nicola Pollard, working in non-theatre spaces – village halls, museums and libraries – in addition to established theatres and performance venues.

Spot On Rural and Library Touring Scheme works with grassroots volunteers from over 50 community venues and 70 libraries (plus one museum) across Lancashire to bring vibrant, entertaining and thought-provoking performances and live events to the heart of rural communities.

This performance is only one of many unmissable live events taking place in village halls and community venues across Lancashire as part of the Spot On Spring 2023 programme.
