Make a Difference Day 2010 - Kirkholt
The Volunteer Centre Rochdale Borough and the vinvolved Team, both projects of Council for Voluntary Service, Rochdale, were delighted to be a part of Make a Difference Day on Friday 29th October, which is one of the largest national volunteering events of the year.
Our volunteers from a range of ages gave a make-over to various locations in Kirkolt. The projects involved the Kirkholt Community Centre which is a focal point for local residents by transforming the patio into a bright and colourful recreation area for the users of the centre. The volunteers painted the internal walls of the Peopleprint Project’s building brilliant white to give great backgrounds to the video filming the project does on site. The volunteers also cleared weeds and moss from the Community Church car park and paths and from the paths at the Community Centre where bulbs were planted to give a beautiful show of daffodils in the spring. During breaks the volunteers made bird feeders from coconut shells which were sold at a fun day on Sunday to raise funds for the Mayors Charities.
Sony UK donated video cameras to make a record of the activities and employee time to train in the use of the cameras and editing of the footage. The cameras will be used on events across the borough in the future.
All in all the volunteers, who had lunch provided by RMBC in the Centre, made a real difference to the area and had a fun time in doing the work - all received a certificate of thanks.
