Healey Ward Forum

Held quarterly at Syke Community Base 7pm
This meeting is held on a monthly cycle in December 2008 it was agreed that what had been Syke Area Forum would change its name to Healey Ward Forum; this ensured that all residents living in the Syke, Healey and Shawclough areas attended the meetings, were able to bring their issues and would reach more people.

RMBC has now devolved to forums throughout Rochdale Township this allows local people together with the Ward Councillors to prioritise what is important for the people living in the Ward.

The original Syke Area Forum had developed 8 years earlier as a result of a meeting to address a challenging community issue involving young people. Adults, children and young people came together with Officers from Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council and Greater Manchester Community Police Officers in an attempt to resolve an issue relating to Neighbourhood nuisance. The solution and the way forward was a success, this was the catalyst from which the Forum evolved and which to this day continues in the same vain by, involving residents of the area together with relevant partners in the decision making processes within the borough and the relationships continue to grow in strength.

The Council has now designated funds to each ward of £9000 and members of the forum have been elected to work with local councillors and council officers to look at items put forward by the residents living in the Healey Ward to make recommendation as to how this money would best benefit the ward as a whole.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate and below are the headings under which issues are raised with Police, Councillors/Council Officers:

- Anti Social Behaviour
- Street/cleaning or lighting
- Traffic
- Environmental Issues
- Neighbourhood concerns
- Community issues

Syke Area Forum meetings was amongst the best attended in the borough and as a result of its achievements the chair was asked to accompany officers from Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council when they went to London to present what proved to be a successful case for the Borough of Rochdale to be given Beacon Status for Community Cohesion in 2005.

Please join us, meet your neighbours, hear about your area and your Community, and determine where you would like us to go from here.
