What we plan to do 2014-2015
Each Rotary year Middleton compile a programme of projects, fundraisers and fellowship events that the club wishes to complete for the forthcoming year. All are designed to ultimately feed into helping those more needy than ourselves.
Club Service - Rtn Janice Sawle
- Support the President & assist in smooth running of the club (includes Production of the Club & District Handbook) Cost to Club – £100.
- Liaise with the Hotel regarding meetings
- Arrange Ad hoc Social events
- Arrange Club events – Christmas party, charter night, RIBI Presidential visit
- Arrange our participation in the local club quiz
- Arrange for attendance at District conference and council meetings
- Provide information of club dates to club members via the calendar and also via our internet site want to encourage all members to use this site.
- Ensure that the club projects meet the H&S requirements and that the club is compliant with all legal requirements
- Maintain the club asset register.
World Service - Rtn Elizabeth Birkett
- Shoe Boxes – Self Financing
- Rain Water Rock Catchment – Sainsbury Collection 13th September
- Mikoroshoni Primary School – Proceeds from Whisky Tasting 28th November including Rotary Foundation
- Water Irrigation Project – A continuation project. Decision regarding funding awaited from Comic Relief
- Polio Project – WHO has introduced emergency measures as new outbreaks occurring. Details of project to be decided.
- Whisky Tasting – Old Boar’s Head 28th November. Proceeds to Rotary Foundation and Mikoroshoni Primary School.
- Race Night – April 2015 – Details of project to be decided.
- Glasses for Vision Aid – A continuing project.
- Stamps for Springhill Hospice – A continuing project.
Foundation - John Brooker
- To achieve a target of Foundation Giving of $100 per member
- To maintain the number of Sustaining Club Members at the current level of 10
- To request any new Club members to consider becoming Sustaining members or to agree to set up a Standing Order to donate £10 a year
- To arrange a date for the ‘sale’ of Rotary Crocuses at Sainsbury’s - Proposed target for the year - £300
- To raise money for the Rotary Foundation through – the weekly raffle, donation instead of Christmas Cards annual voluntary contribution of £10.00, sustaining members, 50% of the funds raised at the Whisky night
- To prepare the Club ready for annual registration to be able to apply for Rotary Grants
- To consult with Club Council regarding the application for a District Grant for July 2015
- To seek the agreement of the incoming DG’s for D1280 and D1050 to write to Clubs in D1280 and D1050 seeking financial support for another Rain Catchment Project
- Providing the finances are in place, to apply for another Global Grant for a Rain Catchment project during 2014/15
Youth & Vocational Projects - Sue Furby
We aim to continue with and build upon some of the projects which have proved successful during the last 2 Rotary years.
These are as follows:
- Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. 2 students for 2015.
- The Excitement of Science Initiative. St. Anne’s Academy plus try other local secondary schools (Cardinal Langley).
- Rotakids: Continue with Alkrington Primary School and Parkfields Primary. Link with International projects eg Polio.
- Dictionary4Life . Continue to use these with local schools as part of their rewards’ system.
- Continue the link we started 2 years ago with Talking Newspapers and try to link the schools with this.
- Investigate the possibility of creating another RotaKids’ group in a local primary school – Bowlee – bringing the total to 3.
- We aim to investigate the possibility of a Middleton Interact Club
- We aim to build stronger links with Cardinal Langley by introducing projects such as The Excitement of Science to them and to continue their use of Dictionaries4Life as rewards, and to encourage them to nominate candidates for the Young Citizen Awards’ Evening 2015.
- Our major event for the year to organise a Young Citizen Awards’ Evening at St. Anne’s Academy some time in June 2015.
- Forge links with local schools and community groups, for nominations.
- Continue to use the nomination form we introduced last year and to invite prominent people in the community to hand out certificates/trophies etc.
- We will look into the possibility of linking our Young Citizen initiative with the National one.
- We will award Vocational Awards to suitable nominees. Link in with the Community Forum groups in this.
- Liaise with the Community team to deliver another Awards’ evening to recognise the Middleton Citizen of the Year and the Middleton Young Citizen of the Year.
- The Grand Beetle Drive – September 2014
- Kwirky Kwiz – February/March 2015
- RotaKids initiatives (Link to the President’s Charity).
- We will aim to raise £500 to fund our projects for the year and any extra things we may introduce along the way!
- By working closely with schools and liaising with the Community team we aim to get Rotary out there for the next generation and beyond
Community Service - Lee Wolf
Christmas Street Collections
- A review of the previous year’s routing will be undertaken to ensure that the routes are efficient and sensible
- We will investigate possible route expansion in order to cover more of Middleton
- We will invite Middleton Police to accompany us on as many routes as possible and especially on Windermere Road and Bowness Road
- Let’s TWEET! We will embrace social media to get our routing out and give live updates as we go!
- Our target: £4,500
Christmas Store Collections
- Only one date available for Sainbury’s Heaton Park
- Alternative sites for the missing collection day will be investigated
- An additional weekend street collection as an alternative to a static collection if needs be
- Our target: £1,000
“Dragon’s Den”
Last year many applications for grants were for the maximum amount available and not project or item specific. In order to encourage more cost specific bids the ceiling of £1,000 per application will be removed
Citizen of the Year Award
- Encourage more nominees
- Nomination forms will be introduced to ensure we have all the necessary nominee information
Partnerships with other committees
- Partner Youth & Vocational with Citizen Awards
- Partner Youth & Vocational with the Kwirky Kwiz
Contingency Planning
The committee will investigate what alternative modes of transport are available should the MSM Lorry be withdrawn for the Christmas Street Collections
Treasurer - Rtn Ged Heatherington
- RIBI Subs - £48
- District Subs - £23.70
- No major increase to predicted spend apart from Speaker meals all funded from subs and no longer a levy on members attending meetings.
- Club Subs to be £100, if paid by 31st July 2014. – Increase of £5
- Payment can be split, it will be £105.00 i.e. 2 payments (£52.50 July 2014 and £52.50 January 2015 ).
- CAF accounts are to remain under President Keef's management and will be reported on at all council & business meetings
