Under 14's Team wins silver at 2014 UK Nationals
Under 14s Team was Jack Midgley Ethan Redmond, Tiegan Alexander, Rebecca Northover, and Kal Torson, plus 5 slightly more experienced Batley players.
First match was against West Wickham u14 who managed the first goal but as our mixed team settled in they needed some good defending but we managed to break through on 3 occasions giving us a winning score of 3-1.
Next came Xarifa u14 a close match but they managed to finish 2-1 ahead
In the match against Pembroke we made some good swift attacks and team play giving a 4-0 result, very close to getting a 5th at the end.
Plymouth was also a good even match with long rallies but we eventually conceded 2-0
Against TSW - the team to beat - we lost 3-0
In the first play-off against West Wickham we exhibited some excellent tactics and good team play going 6-0 up at half time due to the Batley players and Tiegan and Kal added a further 3 goals to make the final score 9-0.
The second play-off, against Plymouth for a place in the final was more evenly matched with tit-for-tat attacks and defending and goals. With a minute to go we were drawing 3-3 but we managed to get ahead with a last minute effort to win 4-3.
We made it to the final against TSW who scored two quick breakaway goals but we were getting the play into their half most of the time but unable score. We held them for long periods of play but just couldn’t punch through It didn’t help when we lost one player to the sin bin for 2 minutes and ended with a score of 7-1 to take the silver medal, which made it one better than last years’ bronze (but we did have our own full team). Well done to everyone who played.
