July 2024 Club Meeting Notes
This evenings dispay showed numerous examples of postal history from the late 1600's starting with a fine example of a letter with a Bishop's Mark cancellation from 1698. This was followed by examples of letters sent through the 1700's , several being from the local area to London and one to Italy in 1780. Uniform 4d post letters from various areas around Manchester , mileage marks and handstruck strikes of Manchester and District offices, Twopence post and then the uniform Penny Post provided a comprehensive display of local postal history.
Fine examples of penny blacks and two penny blues on cover along with Mulready envelopes and prepaid envelopes and a display of Victorian high value stamps and PUC £1 stamps concluded the display.
New members are always welcome at our meetings which are held at the Rochdale Unitarian Church on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30 pm.
