Rochdale Philatelic Society Club Meeting 11th February Press Release

At our February monthly meeting, member David Hudson presented a history of GB. Postage Due stamps from 1914 to 2000, when there use ceased.

David discussed the complex rules and regulations covering the many factors relating to postage due and postage return charges.

These included weight, size, delivery attempts and return to sender costs.

Post cards had onerous rules to distinguish them from normal letters, such as the number of words and subject matter. Specific regulations were introduced to prevent avoidance of higher post charges, by masquerading as post cards when they were really letters.

David said, he gets pleasure from his detective work to try and work out why charges have been made and under what circumstances they are applied.

New members are always welcome at our meetings, which are held at the Rochdale Unitarian Church on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30 pm.
