February, 2024, Club Meeting Notes
Ken Knight, our club Middle East Specialist presented displays from the late 19th to the early 20th century.
Beginning with covers from Italian run postal services prior to being taken over by the newly created Egyptian post office. Further items shown included postal circular seals, stamps issued to collect salt tax, river/rail travelling post office cancellations and many perfins.
We continued up the Nile with stamps as first issued in Sudan including genuine and forgeries from this period. Finally military (WW1) themed stamps, covers and post cards were shown from Turkey, Egypt, Syria and Jordan.
New members are always welcome at our meetings which are held at the Rochdale Unitarian Church on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30 pm.
