April,2024, Club Meeting Notes
Our April meeting consisted of philatelic material presented by members beginning with the letters D,E,and F. Our first display was from a member who collects stamps associated with 500 plus World Heritage Sites he has visited from a total of over 1100.
The following display were samples from a collection of 19th. Century double sided letters which included , diamond letter envelopes, cross written letters, and zig/zag cut currency notes sent as two separate postings.
Next we were shown Maltese letters suffering from deficient postage. Many alternative penalty rates and differently concocted ways of claiming the missing postage by the post offices were explained.
Our final talk was a philatelic study of the world record hyper-inflation period suffered in Hungary ( 1945/46). At one point 100% inflation was occurring every 15 hours. Postage stamp value overprints were continuously being issued. The highest denomination issued reached a staggering inflation peak of 10 to the power of 28.
New members are always welcome at our meetings which are held at the Rochdale Unitarian Church on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30 pm.
