Rochdale Pensioners' Association

Christmas Party 2017

On Wednesday the 6th of December Rochdale Pensioner’s Association held its annual Christmas Dinner at Rochdale Town Hall. The event was attended by seventy two members. The menu consisted of a glass of mulled wine, Prosecco or Orange juice, soup of the day or Pate, Turkey or Salmon Christmas Dinner, Christmas pudding or trifle or cheese and biscuits followed by Tea or coffee and mince pies.

The guests of honour were The Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor and Mrs Ian Duckworth who were greeted by the Chairperson Wendy Mottley. Josie Ashworth, the membership secretary, presented The Mayoress with a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the members.

As a special recognition by the members, Josie presented Emily with a pot plant for all the time, work and endeavour she has applied to make this party, past holidays and monthly outings such a success. The entertainment was provided by “Long Tall Paul” who sang many of the old Christmas favourites, answered many requests but refused to sing Nessun Dorma. His jokes, stories and personality were most infectious. There were four games of Bingo “Line then House” with prizes. A member donated a bottle of port to be raffled off in aid of the Mayor’s charity for which £60 was raised. This was followed by a free raffle with lots of prizes. Before the party concluded every member was presented with a large box of biscuits to take home. Lots of members expressed their enjoyment of the event.
