Milnrow, Newhey & Districts Carnival
This years' Carnival took place on Saturday 2nd June 2012. The parade started at 1pm, journeying from Haugh Lane in Newhey - to the all-new Hollingworth Business and Enterprise College in Milnrow, where the fun continued with a much anticipated féte.
In celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in June 2012, this year's parade had a Royal 'Red, White & Blue' theme. Floats were trimmed with bunting and balloons, and walkers carried flags - fully embracing the spirit of the occasion.
It was heartening to see that shops and houses along the parade route had also joined in the celebrations, decorating windows and trimming the outside of their buildings with bunting galore.
The parade was enjoyed by crowds of onlookers, who then followed the parade back to the school - where further fun was planned. Here, a Fairground greeted revellers and puppet shows by 'The Rock Puppets' were staged throughout the afternoon. Other entertainment included performances by 'High Crompron Morris Dancing Troupe', 'Lisa Jayne's Dance Academy', 'LSK Dance', and live-music from local bands 'General Waste' and 'The Back Door Project In-House band' in the sports hall. Here, all the sound equipment was provided free of charge by The Back Door Project and was hosted by DJ Jon Dafox.
Visitors didn't go hungry. A volunteer run cafe, with sandwiches, cakes and drinks, featured in the main arena - along with a hog-roast, a barbeque and ice-cream outside.
Carnival games included 'Lucky Envelopes', a coconut shy, a hoopla, a tombola and face-painting for the little ones.
Other stallholders lent enjoyment to the days' events with their variety of stalls:
