Middleton Musical Society

Alkrington Hall exhibition Nov. 2016

In November 2016, the Choir took part in an exhibition at Alkrington Hall.

Back in the 1760s-1770s Sir Ashton Lever created a museum at the Hall, which grew to around 28,000 items, some donated by Captain James Cook.

“A Cargo of Curiosities” recreated this museum, using the personal collections of local Middleton people. Middleton Musical Society, founded around the same time as the museum, contributed some original manuscripts and archives which are illustrated here.
