Intro
We have been running the school badminton club for over 9 years. The club is open to any pupil – all you have to bring is appropriate kit and footwear, as the club has its own rackets and shuttles. The club offers the opportunity for professional coaching in fitness, technique and tactics, as well as the chance to play badminton with other pupils. Pupils who are interested will also have the opportunity to play competitively against other schools, both in matches and tournaments/competitions. There may also be the opportunity to go to watch some of England’s top players competing in the English National Championships in Manchester.
The school badminton club is run by Mrs Bradshaw and Mr Harrall, both of whom are professionally qualified badminton coaches. They have coached in a number of different primary and secondary schools in the Rochdale and Bury areas and have coached a large number of junior players, up to county level. They set up and run the biggest junior badminton club in the Bury area, Bury Topflight, which currently has over 50 members. The club has been awarded Premier Club status and was also voted club of the month by Badminton England. The club has been very successful in a very short period of time, winning the Greater Manchester Junior League two seasons running. Some of the older club members also play in the local adult league.
