Minutes of the 102 meeting on 21st May 2013.
Present: Peter Evans (Chairman), John F Kay, John Kershaw. Barry Horner, Chris Blackwell, Jack Fitton, Chris Orentas, Jon Stopp, Keith Hallam, Brian Holden, Bob Weatherley,
Apologies for absence: Cynthia Davis, Helen Evans, Iain Gerrard, Cllr Ann Stott, Barbara Weatherley, Roger Davis.
1. Minutes of the last meeting (no 101) approved.
2. Durn Marina.
2.1 JFK had not yet been able to meet Peter Rowlinson of RMBC.
2.2 No progress on Schofield Street obstruction.
3. Owls (Observers of Waterway Lengths) Scheme,
3.1 The full length from Summit to Lock 59 was now covered by OWL observers
3.2 Ray MacDonald had run an introductory Session for the volunteers
3.3 Ian Gerrard was frequently in touch with Jon Stopp
3.4 An Adoption Scheme was under development involving more hands on involvement.
3.5 Dave Templeton at Warland Farm has a tree planting and development scheme
3.6 There were no official badges or warrant cards. There were some reasons why these are appropriate but it is really down to the OWLs themselves to decide
3.7 OWLs were simply observing and reporting to Jon Stopp’s number. They are treated as volunteers and so there is no insurance cover taken out by the Canal Trust as would be the case with an Adoption Scheme

4.1 No developments since the last meeting
5. Canal & River Trust. Rochdale Canal Society.
5.1 Support for Ray re Summit Lock House continues
5.2 South Pennine Canal Festival 27/7 to 4/8. Chris Orentas explained that the festival would consist of many events along the canals now in the scheme. Most would be run by others but publicity given by the Canal Trust
5.3 She was awaiting confirmation that some entertainers would cover Littleborough Rush Bearing Festival
5.4 JFK will let Jon Stopp have Steve Lister’s email address so that details of the Canal Festival can be publicised on Littleborough Local and so that details of the monthly farmer’s markets, Rush Bearing and other LEAF events can be publicised by the Canal Trust
6. Next meetings: Tuesdays 18 June, 16 July and 20th August All meetings at 19.30h in the United Reformed Church, Victoria Street, Littleborough.
