Only three boats took part in the Canal Rally meeting at Warland Summit on Thursday 19th July 2018. It was thought that the risk of water shortage may have put people off.
Café Boat Scheme
- Covered workspace
John Lawn and Julian Farnell moved the boat from the Rochdale Canal Society yard to John Lawn’s business premises on Sunday 15th July 2018. It will shortly be inside the workshop
They are optimistic that the engine will run.
The next job was to cut a hatch in the floor so that the condition of all the hull can be checked
The boat will be stripped out and sand blasted by “A1 Blasting” a firm in Milnrow.
It will then be painted with primer.
It is the intention to obtain a report on the hull, probably from Guy Holding of Portland Basin Marina. He would be asked to advise of safety aspects as to how the boat should be fitted out
- Operating Fees
- We will shortly open further discussions with the C & RT to agree the amount of any mooring fees and operating fees which will be payable
- We will then be able to set out an accurate budget for the project. The target for starting to trade is now spring 2019
- John Kay has obtained an extension of time with C & RT and the next report will not need to be filed until 1st February 2019.
- Volunteers
- We will now wish to recruit a team of about six volunteers to run the catering side of the project
- They will need to achieve certificates in basic hygiene which it may be possible to do online
- Julian Farnell confirmed that his mother was still interested in being involved
