All of the boxers below have shown a dedication to work hard and because of this they have achieved their goals. A coach can only teach and guide but it is the individual who as to have the steel, drive, grit, will-power and determination to fullfill their dreams.
Jock McAvoy 1930s 'The Rochdale Thunderbolt'
- The only genuine Rochdale professional to win the British and Commonwealth middleweight Title 1935 and world light-heavyweight title challenger 1936.
Johnny Butterworth 1950's
- The Central area lightweight champion 1953.
- Fought to beat the British lightweight champion twice in non-title bouts as well as fighting in France, America and Australia.
Tony Connellan
- Became first Rochdale boy to win a national schools title 1981.
- Won the National Schoolboy title over four consecutive years - 1981,1982, 1983, 1984 and also won the Junior ABA title in 1983.
- Named as best Junior boxer in Britain in 1983 . Captain of England’s Youth Team.
Darren Connellan
- Won the National Boy’s Club Championship, the Junior ABA title and the National Schoolboy title in 1983.
- Won the National Boys Club title in 1985.
Derek Wormald
- Won the National Boys Club title in 1983.
- British Light-middleweight title challenger in 1989.
- European Middleweight title challenger in 1996.
- Central Area Champion in 1999.
- British middleweight title challenger in 1999.
Kevin Taylor
- 3rd round finalist at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
- A.B.A. Champion in 1984.
- Multi Nations Champion 1984.
- Captain of England’s amatuer Boxing Team.
- Successful professional debut.
- Fought for the British Featherweight Title on two occasions.
Sean Kinahan
- Junior ABA Champion 1990.
Osman Chowdry 1998
- Reached National Schoolboys ABA final
2001. - Selected for England for Multi-Nations tournaments.
Rory Todd 2002
- Won Senior National Novices championship on his first attempt.
