Friends & Trustees
Friends of Mikoroshoni Primary School
The ‘Friends of Mikoroshoni Primary School’ is a small independent charity organised originally by four trustess, Yvonne & John from Manchester and Pat & John from Stoke-on-Trent, (sadly through ill health & death Pat & John are no longer trustees of the charity, but the current trustees are committed to ensuring sustainability of the school and charity that they were very important founder members of). They were joined by Evelyn & John from East Lothian in 2008. The trustee team was further increased with Keith Trinnaman from Manchester joining and taking on the role as treasurer. Lee Wolf (Manchester), Paul Kay (Sheffield) and Dennis Mwakulua (London) joined to help in 2015.
The charities trustees have the full responsibility of raising the necessary £40,000 each year to keep the school open.
These funds provide a free education for up to 300 pupils and this involves paying all the teachers’ wages, purchasing all the equipment required by the school and paying all the other bills, including electricity and water bills.
A gift of £40 a year will contribute towards a child’s education and also to the further development of the school community.
If the Gift Tax Form is also completed it means that a further £10 can be claimed from the HMRC gift aid scheme - making the gift worth £50.00 in total.
Supporters are provided with periodic newsletters and summaries of the head teacher’s reports.
Talks
The charity is available to give talks about Mikoroshoni Primary School and more generally about what life is like in a third world country.
Since 1996 we have learnt a great deal about the day to day lives of the people & their customs – far more than can be found in any text books.
