Discover Amazing Women By Rail
Discover Amazing Women By Rail. The Friends of Littleborough Stations have been instrumental in the production of this guide to some of the amazing women who have helped to shape UK literature, politics and humanities. Launched at Elizabeth Gaskell's House in Manchester on 27th March 2018, this initiative encourages people to explore the Calder Valley and Mid-Cheshire Rail Lines to discover how women such as Emmeline Pankhurst, Gracie Fields, Elizabeth Raffald, Elizabeth Gaskell, Frances Hodgson Burnett and others made great contributions to society and whose legacies live on today.
Clicking on the above link will take you to the Amazing Women website, where you can view the guide and discover more about the project. FOLS Chair, Richard Lysons, has been heavily involved in authoring and developing this new guide with the support of rail groups across the area and funding from Northern.
Printed copies of the guide are available, free of charge, from the Coach House on Lodge Street in Littleborough and from the History Centre on the Leeds platform at Littleborough station.
Both Littleborough Station and Smithy Bridge Station are showcased in the guide and on the accompanying website.

I was writing to thank you for the copy of Discovering Amazing Women by Rail that you recently sent me. It is a fascinating read. It is a brilliant way to highlight the wonders of our local rail lines, linking it to a mixture of both well-known and less well known local characters. It has certainly got my office talking about it so I hope that it is replicated across the region and people go and do some exploring by rail. The Rt Hon Esther McVey MP (Tatton)
