Denehurst House
Denehurst House was built between 1893 and 1909 in the location of former woodland. The house was designed with a skilful combination of architectural styles - vernacular, Edwardian, Elizabethan and Jacobean styles. The house is characterised by a mix of materials, such as brick, stone and timber, all of which come together to result in this very impressive building.
The architects who designed the house were S Butterworth & W H Duncan of Rochdale, who were responsible for designing a number of libraries in the North West including Littleborough, Wardle, Clitheroe and Milnrow Carnegie Library, the latter of which is a Grade II listed building.
The sunken garden and the landscaping of some 20 acres of land were however designed by a Mr Arthur Blagden.
Denehurst House has served as a number of council offices since it was donated to the town including the Recreation and Amenities Department and later for the Social Service Department.
