History of Castleton Bowling Club
In Old Rochdale Observer of 1867 there was a call for people to buy 300 shares at a pound each in Castleton subscription Bowling Green Ltd to build on the Old Cricket Ground Merefield with 300 shares offered costing a pound each (600 shares eventually were sold).
The development was done By John Parker and Son. The Green opened in May 1868 with much celebration and revelry judging by description in Rochdale Observer!-see gallery pics
